Pastor Owen Mason teaches that believers are given a powerful offensive weapon in spiritual warfare: the Word of God, described in Ephesians as the “sword of the Spirit.” Jesus demonstrated how to use this weapon when He defeated Satan’s temptations in the wilderness by responding with Scripture. The Holy Spirit also brings God’s Word to our remembrance (rhema), giving believers the right truth at the right moment. Because of this, Christians must spend time regularly in Scripture so they are equipped for spiritual battles. Finally, prayer works alongside the Word as a spiritual weapon, and believers are called to practice many forms of prayer—such as consecration, petition, authority, thanksgiving, supplication, and intercession—following the ACTS pattern of adoration, confession, thanksgiving, and supplication.
