Jesus: The Assurance of Promises Fulfilled
In this sermon, we explore the powerful promises Jesus fulfilled through His life, death, and resurrection, offering believers the assurance of God's presence, completion, and communion.
The first promise is the Promise of Presence. Jesus assured His disciples that the Holy Spirit would be sent as another Helper to dwell with them forever (John 14:16-17). This presence isn’t limited to the past or a specific location; God’s Spirit now dwells within believers, making us His living temples (1 Corinthians 6:19). Through Christ, we are no longer strangers, but citizens of God’s household, united in worship and fellowship (Ephesians 2:19-22).
Next, we reflect on the Promise of Completion. Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross fulfilled the law's requirements, ending the need for continual animal sacrifices. Hebrews 10:14 declares that by one perfect offering, Christ has sanctified believers forever. His work on the cross is the final and complete solution to sin, ensuring that our salvation is secure and our relationship with God is fully restored.
Lastly, we consider the Promise of Unveiled Communion. In the Old Testament, the veil separated the Holy Place from the Most Holy (Exodus 26:33), but Jesus' death tore the veil in two (Matthew 27:51). Through His sacrifice, we now have direct access to God’s presence, symbolized by Christ entering the Holy of Holies as our high priest (Hebrews 6:19-20). We are called to partake in this intimate communion, as a royal priesthood (1 Peter 2:9), offering our lives as spiritual sacrifices.
Through Jesus, all these promises are not only fulfilled but secured for eternity.
