Mother's Day

May 11, 2025    Owen Mason

Pastor Owen Mason’s Mother’s Day message draws from Luke 10:38–41, where Jesus visits the home of Martha and Mary. Martha is busy serving, while Mary sits at Jesus’ feet, listening to His teaching. Jesus gently corrects Martha, emphasizing that while service is good, resting in His presence is better. Pastor Mason uses this moment to highlight a spiritual truth for mothers: rest begins at Jesus’ feet (Matthew 11:28). He encourages women to embrace the peace Jesus offers rather than being overwhelmed by life’s demands.

The sermon then focuses on the power of words, emphasizing that gracious, thoughtful speech reflects Jesus (Proverbs 25:11; 16:24; Colossians 4:6). Words are more than expressions—they’re reflections of the heart (Proverbs 4:23; Luke 6:45), and what’s stored in the heart overflows through speech. Mothers are urged to speak life, grounded in Scripture (Psalm 119:11), letting their words build up and guide their families in Christ-like love.

Pastor Mason also stresses the importance of sincerity: say what you mean (John 6:63). Words should be honest and Spirit-filled, pointing loved ones toward Jesus. Finally, he reminds us that loving words are rooted in God, who is love (1 John 4:7-8). Mothers, by using words of love and truth, mirror God’s heart and shape their homes in His image. This message challenges and uplifts, calling mothers to be intentional with their hearts, words, and love, all for the glory of Christ.
